Procrastination Isn’t the Problem. Your Life Plan Is.
Okay, confession time.
I once spent 45 minutes "organizing my desk" just to avoid opening one email.
Yes—forty-five whole minutes. My pens were arranged by ink flow.
My laptop was angled like a Pinterest flat lay.
I even dusted my water bottle. Who does that?
You know what I didn’t do?
The thing I said was “important.”
Classic.
But here’s the thing—I’m not lazy. And I’ll bet you aren’t either.
If you’re reading this blog, you’re probably the kind of lovely who has a colour-coded planner, three browser tabs open to Notion, and a secret addiction to highlighters.
So let’s get honest.
Maybe you’re not procrastinating.
Maybe you’re subconsciously protesting a life you never actually wanted.
Gulp.
Resistance Is Not Always Rebellion—Sometimes It's Revelation
Look, I get it. We live in a productivity-obsessed culture that acts like procrastination is the unpardonable sin.
But what if procrastination isn’t laziness or fear or a lack of willpower?
What if it’s your soul waving a little red flag saying:
“Hey lovely, this thing you’re trying to do? It doesn’t line up with who you are anymore.”
Suddenly, resistance isn’t a problem.
It’s a prophet.
Four Signs You’re Not Procrastinating—You’re Just Misaligned
Let’s get real. Here’s how to tell if your “I just need to focus more” problem is actually a “this life isn’t working anymore” problem.
1. You Daydream About Disappearing Into the Woods
No Wi-Fi. No Slack messages. No team meetings about KPIs.
Just you, a journal, and maybe a goat named Harold.
You’re not fantasizing about freedom for fun—you’re longing for something real.
2. You Rewrite the Same Task... Every. Single. Week.
You’ve moved "launch that offer" or "finish website update" from Monday to Friday... and back again.
It’s the Groundhog Day of entrepreneurship.
If your planner had feelings, it would’ve already broken up with you.
3. The Thought of Doing It Makes You Want a Nap
You’re not physically tired—you’re spiritually dehydrated.
Even with 8 hours of sleep and your oat milk latte in hand, the thought of doing that thing feels like wading through honey in a snowsuit.
4. You’re Weirdly Productive at Everything Except That One Thing
Need to clean the fridge? Done.
Color-code your email folders? Done.
Write the caption for your $2,000 coaching offer? Suddenly your cat looks like he needs therapy.
Lovely, your brain isn’t broken.
You’re just trying to execute on a vision that no longer belongs to you.
But... Why Would I Be Avoiding My Own Life?!
Great question.
It usually boils down to one of three things:
1. You Built Your Life From Shoulds, Not Soul
Somewhere along the way, you picked up a blueprint that wasn’t yours.
It looked like success, smelled like hustle, and sounded like that online guru you don’t even like.
And now? Your spirit’s quietly boycotting the plan.
2. You’ve Outgrown What Once Fit You Perfectly
We don’t stay in the same jeans forever (praise God).
Why would we expect our calling, career, or content strategy to stay frozen in 2020?
3. You’ve Never Actually Asked What You Want
You’ve mastered the art of being useful, impressive, and dependable.
But have you ever just sat with God and asked:
"What do I actually want in this season?"
(Hint: Your answer might surprise you.)
So... What Do You Do When You Suspect You’re Not Just “Stuck”—You’re Off Track?
You don’t need to burn it all down.
You just need to pause long enough to listen.
Try this:
Step 1 – Ask This One Brave Question
"Is this task—or this goal—still aligned with who I’m becoming?"
Write that down. Journal it. Pray over it.
If the answer is no, guess what? You’re allowed to change your mind.
You’re not flaky—you’re evolving.
Step 2 – Decide: Recommit or Release
If it’s still for you, recommit with strategy.
If it’s not, release with peace.
Yes, even if it’s mid-launch.
Even if it’s your "bread and butter."
Even if your aunt on Facebook won’t understand.
Your peace > their opinion. Every time.
Step 3 – Build Something That Fits This Version of You
Get a planner (like the Surprisingly Successful one… wink wink) that helps you plan from identity, not pressure.
Map out what actually matters this month.
And let the old version of your life go quietly, without guilt or a 12-part Instagram story.
Final Thoughts – You’re Not a Procrastinator. You’re a Truth Teller.
What if the reason you haven’t done the thing…
is because deep down, you know it’s not your thing anymore?
What if the Holy Spirit has been gently nudging you toward something lighter, truer, freer?
Lovely, you’re not lazy.
You’re just done living a life that looks good but feels wrong.
It’s not about getting things done.
It’s about getting things right.
And that starts with listening to the nudge.
