Can We Talk About the Lie Stuck to Your Vision Board?
Lovely, we need to talk.
Not about your faith.
Not about your funnel.
Not about your kombucha habit.
We need to talk about that vision board you made during that Pinterest-fueled planning session…
You know the one:
- Gold foil quotes like “She believed she could so she did”
- A Bali bungalow (even though you hate humidity)
- A Chanel bag (even though you haven’t worn heels since 2021)
- A number circled in red Sharpie because... “7 figures”
You pasted it. You prayed over it. You might have saged it.
But did it... actually change your life?
No shade. I’ve been there.
In fact, I made a vision board once that had more branding than a Super Bowl ad... ...and still left me burnt out and confused.
Why? Because it wasn’t my vision.
It was just a mood board of my insecurity, dressed up as ambition.
Why Most Vision Boards Are Just Well-Decorated Distractions
Let’s call it what it is:
A lot of vision boards are built in a flurry of hope… but not a lot of clarity.
They’re full of borrowed dreams, aspirational aesthetics, and vague goals like:
- "More travel"
- "Level up my life"
- Be magnetic!!"
But here's the thing: Vague dreams produce vague direction.
And if your board is basically a Pinterest collage of things you think you should want, don’t be surprised when nothing on it sticks.
Three Reasons Vision Boards Fail (Even When You’re Really Spiritual About It)
1. You Skipped Identity and Went Straight to Aesthetic
You grabbed the scissors before asking the hard questions:
- Who am I becoming?
- What’s actually for me in this season?
- What do I need to prune—not paste?
You tried to visualize before you personalized.
And that’s where the disconnect begins.
2. You Glued Down Goals That Belong to Someone Else
You saw someone else’s launch.
You copied their dream house.
You wrote down “book a TED Talk” because someone told you to think big.
Lovely, your calling doesn’t need to be photogenic. It needs to be true.
3. You Made It Look Inspiring—But It Doesn’t Make You Feel Anything
You look at the board and feel... meh. Or worse, anxious.
That’s a sign your soul isn’t agreeing with the assignment.
When vision is real, it stirs peace, not panic.
It pulls you forward—not pushes you into performative productivity.
So... What Does a True Vision Look Like?
It’s not about glue sticks or glitter fonts.
It’s about alignment.
Here’s how to make sure your vision isn’t just a pretty lie… but a clear, true “yes.”
Step 1 – Audit Your Current Life Before You Create Your Future One
Before you slap a yacht on your wall, ask:
- What’s working in my life right now?
- What feels heavy, forced, or fake?
- Where am I already thriving (but haven’t celebrated it)?
- What does peace feel like—and when did I last feel it?
We’re not here to build a life that looks good on Instagram.
We’re here to build a life that lets you breathe.
Step 2 – Use the 5 Stages of the Clarity Method to Map Real Vision
Instead of pasting a dozen goals onto a poster board, try organizing them this way:
|
Clarity Stage |
Ask Yourself… |
|
Calibrate |
What’s true for me now? What do I believe? |
|
Layout |
What outcomes would actually serve this belief? |
|
Align |
What habits, tools, and rhythms would support that? |
|
Refine |
How do I want to communicate, serve, or show up? |
|
Yield |
How will I know when it’s working—or when to pivot? |
You don’t need a bullet-point blueprint. You need a directional map that honors who you are, where you are, and what matters now.
Step 3 – Let God Edit It
Real talk: Sometimes our vision board becomes our idol.
We cling to what we pasted down in December, even when God is clearly shifting things in April.
Your vision board should never be more sacred than your discernment.
So once you’ve mapped your vision, ask:
"Lord, is any part of this a 'no' that I’ve been trying to force into a 'yes'?"
He might ask you to let go of the island photoshoot.
He might show you a simpler, quieter, less impressive dream.
Don’t worry—it’s always better than what you had planned.
You Don’t Need a Vision Board. You Need a Vision Life.
Here’s the thing:
You can print all the quotes, use all the washi tape, and set all the manifestation alarms you want…
But if your vision isn’t rooted in truth?
It won’t bear fruit.
And honestly? That’s why I stopped hosting vision board parties.
Now I host Breakthrough 5 workshops—spaces where women walk through real clarity shifts, not just collage nights with snacks.
Because I’m not here to help you decorate your desires.
I’m here to help you define them.
Final Thoughts – Scrapbook Dreams or Strategic Clarity? You Choose.
Lovely, if your vision board isn’t working, it’s not because you didn’t try hard enough.
It’s probably because:
-
The dreams weren’t yours
-
The strategy wasn’t clear
-
Or the vision stopped being honest
But that’s okay. You get to start again.
With less pressure. And more peace.
You don’t need 37 magazine clippings and a Canva grid to prove you have direction.
You just need a few solid truths, a lot of grace, and the courage to get clear on what’s really yours to pursue.
